Abstract:

Irregularities are of great concern in structural engineering; therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effects of different types of irregularity on the seismic response of structures more comprehensively. In this research, the effect of non-parallel systems irregularity on the torsional behavior of RC buildings with non-parallel shear walls was investigated using nonlinear time history analysis. The results indicate that the existence of non-parallel elements in lateral force resisting systems can increase the torsional response that can in turn significantly affect the seismic performance of structures. In addition, it is observed that in the models studied, the torsion ratio increased more significantly in shear wall direction compared to other the perpendicular direction
