Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to examine the effects of anxiety on the students’ writing performance in EFL context. The participants were chosen from among ۸۰ Iranian EFL students who took part in TOFEL proficiency test. ۴۰ students majoring in English literature and English translation (۲۰ female & ۲۰ male, aged ۱۸ to ۲۵) have been selected. The instruments to collect data were: a) Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (Horwitz et al., ۱۹۸۶) and b) Writingperformance test. Both quantitative and qualitative research method were employed in this study. The data were collected by distributing FLCAS questionnaire and a writing test, which were analyzed statistically through IBM SPSS software. The results of the study indicated that there isa significant negative relationship between students’ anxiety and their writing performance. Accordingly, it could be concluded that (high) anxiety was effective (negatively) in the performance of students
