Experimental Investigation of Submerged Waterjet Flow Field Using Low-Cost Particle Imaging Velocimetry Technique abstract
In this experiment, it has been attempted to simulate the velocity field of a submerged waterjet and explore its characteristics using the particle imaging velocimetry technique (PIV). A smartphone has been used for recording in this experiment. The basis of this experiment is imaging a given cross-section of the fluid field. A dark room has been embedded around the reservoir and a 532nm laser with 100mW power and a lens with a known focal distance has been used to create a light sheet inside the reservoir. PVC resin particles have been used as tracing particles. After filming the cross-section, a source code is used for image processing to extract flow field characteristics such as velocity magnitude, velocity vectors, and streamlines. The results show that axial mean velocity gradually decreases after a specified distance which is conformed to Iguchi’s experiments. Also, the change in radial velocity and velocity profiles can be compared to Qu and Chanson’s experiments.
