Abstract:

We study in this paper the properties of quark and gluon jets by using the e+e-annihilation data at ۹۱.۲ GeVcentre of mass energy. We first separate the quark and gluon jets using JADE algorithm. We observe that gluon jets have a higher multiplicity compared to quark jets of similar energy. The transverse momentum of single particles relative to the jet axis in gluon jets is larger than the corresponding value in quark jets. In other words, gluon jets are wider than quark jets. Next we study the effect of different flavors on quark and gluon jets. This clarifies role of the quark mass on internal structure of the two kinds of jets. We observe that the multiplicity of quark jets is increased by increasing the quark mass. But it does not affect the multiplicity of gluon jets. The same conclusion is held for transverse momentum. Possible explanations for all these features will be presented in this paper.
