Sperm quality, egg size, fecundity and their relationships with fertilization rate of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella)

 Gametes were collected by abdominal massage from ۱۵ anesthesized male and female grass carp. In collected sperm samples the following mean spermatological properties were determined: sperm volume ۱۵.۶۴ ± ۵.۳۹ mL, sperm motility ۸۱.۲۰ ± ۷.۶۱%, motility duration ۶۲.۰۶ ± ۱۹.۴۰s, density ۱۷.۸۸±۵.۴۸ x۱۰۹ mL-۱, total density ۴۲۸.۹۰±۳۰۲.۰۵ x۱۰۹, and pH ۷.۲۵±۰.۸۱. Also egg size (mm) and fecundity (egg/fish) were determined as ۱.۰۴±۰.۰۲۸ and ۴۱۷۸۶۷ ± ۳۶.۲۷۴ respectively in female grass carp. The fertilization capacity of sperm was tested with the same egg pool. The insemination dosage was ۲x۱۰۵ spz/egg for each fertilization experiment. Fertilization rate was determined as mean ۷۹.۳±۲.۹۵% and positively correlated with sperm motility (r=۰.۹۳۲, p<۰.۰۱), egg size (r=۰.۵۱۳, p>۰.۰۵) and fecundity (r=۰.۵۳۹, p>۰.۰۵).
