A review on the various from of vibrations and damage detection in long-span cable bridges abstract
Owing to the global roaring economy and fast urban sprawling over last decades, bridge structures are regarded as very important portions of transportation networks. They are taking more obligations of life care than ever before and any damages or even collapse of bridges resulting from the poor performance might disrupt the transportation system and directly result in tragedies of life and property loss. Thus, knowing dynamic characteristics of long-span bridge is crucial element in designing. Different form ofvibration form various sources of excitation due to low damping and flexibility of long span bridges, could occur during the lifetime of long-span bridge. Aim of this paper is toreviews famous published studies and researches on long-span bridge vibration mechanism and control under wind, seismic, traffic and human-motion excitations. Typesof vibration commonly observed on the long-span bridge are discussed from the viewpoint of structural engineering. Common types of damage detection and damage measuring methods for long-span bridge discussed. Accuracy of each and amount of damage caused by each method compared.
