Abstract:

Nowadays, due to the important role of media in different countries, it seems necessary to study the translation characteristics of audio-visual productions. In recent years, in the field of translation studies, several studies and articles have been presented in order to review these products. Therefore, the study of various dimensions of audio-visual productions, including linguistic and cultural evaluations, localization of productions in other countries, their impact on the audience of different community, and other dimensions have been considered by many translators and experts around the world. According to studies conducted in this area, translation and dubbing of multilingual animations have always posed many challenges for translators and dubbing directors due to the multiplicity of identities, sounds and linguistic diversity. The present study aims to analyze how accents represent in the dubbed version of multilingual animations. Therefore, two cases, “Luca” and “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” has been analyzed to identify the non-native accents and the strategy of reconstructing each accent. The comparison between the original version and the dubbed version indicates that two strategies, neutralization and homogenization, have been applied by dubbing directors to reconstruct non-native accents. It has also been indicated that homogenization is the most widely used strategy in these animations.
