Human herpesvirus 8, also known as Kaposi's sarcoma virus (KSHV), is one of the few pathogens known to be directly carcinogenic, causing more than 40,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 deaths annually. Become all over the world.The KSHV virus has recently been discovered. It was first isolated from Kaposi sarcoma in 1994, hence its name. Apart from Kaposi's sarcoma, KSHV causes two lymphoproliferative disorders, primary lymphoma effusion, and Cestelman's multicenter disease.EPIDEMIOLOGY OF KSHV INFECTION Unlike other ubiquitous herpes viruses, the serum prevalence of KSHV is significantly lower and varies from region to region.Indigenous areas in Africa and the Middle East, where the serum prevalence of KSHV infection in the general population is between 14% and 86%, the highest serum prevalence is found in the so-called "Kaposi sarcoma belt" sub-Saharan Africa.The average prevalence of KSHV infection in southern Europe is estimated to be between 10 and 30%.In the United States and Northern Europe, the serum prevalence of KSHV infection in the general population is low, estimated at about 6%.In these areas with low serum prevalence, the highest rates were recorded in HIV-positive men (MSM) (30-60%) and HIV-negative MSM (20-30%).
