Evaluation of feed efficiency in selection index in dairy cows using meta-analysis method abstract
Due to the growing population, there will be a significant increase in food demand.Due to the limited terrestrial and natural resources to expand production, there is an urgent need to develop strategies to optimize food production efficiency, despite the apparent effectiveness of these developments, there is a need for a permanent and cumulative solution through genetic selection for in various species of livestock, including cattle. The economic importance of selection to improve feed efficiency by cattle producers because of its potential to significantly reduce costs, minimize environmental impacts(e.g., reduce nutrient loss in manure and methane intensity), optimize Efficiency the use of land and resources, and the improvement of the profitability of the cattle industry are well known. This study was performed on four traits of FS, FI, RFI,
FCR . In the first step, in asystematic search that is a prerequisite for meta-analysis, all published articles on feed efficiency in dairy cows and the accuracy of genomic prediction with trait insertion.Related to feed efficiency are collected in dairy cattle breeding programs published over the past 20 years (2000 to 2020). Then the general information and specific information required for the articles are extracted in an Excel spreadsheet file. After collecting sufficient articles focusing on the genomic predictability of feed efficiency in the dairy cow breeding program, the challenges and objectives of research design will be revealed. The attribute of feed consumption efficiency has not been comprehensively used in the selection index program in dairy cow so far, which is very important due to factors such as greenhouse gas production and high cost of feed, which can be explored and new solutions can be proposed and Can cause this attribute to be included and operationalized in the selection equation in breeding programs in the dairy industry. In general, this can lead to lower business costs.
