Abstract:

This paper presents a study on friction behavior of ۱۷-۷PH stainless steel in hot forging using ring compression test (RCT) and finite element analysis (FEA).The main objective of this research was to investigate the effect of lubricant types, heat treatment (H/T) coefficient and thickness percentage on friction behavior of the mentioned material by using friction calibration curve and FE simulation. The compression tests were conducted to obtain the necessary material properties for the FEA. A series of ring compression tests were then conducted in order to determine the magnitude of the friction factor (m) for a number of lubricants such as graphite, glass and dry condition. Finite element simulation was also used to derive the friction calibration curves under certain temperature and to evaluate material deformation, geometric changes and load-time results. The friction factors are calculated for the mentioned tests by the comparison of experimental data and finite element simulation results. Result showed that friction reduction percentages (۳۰% and ۵۰%) graphite powder has better result (low friction factor) than glass powder lubricant and using H/T coefficient factor of ۱۰ kW (𝑚۲𝑘)-۱ in hot forging of ۱۷-۷PH stainless steel, is more effective and applicable
