Research Article: Population dynamic parameters of the Malabar trevally Carangoides malabaricus (Bloch and Schneider, ۱۸۰۱) in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea

The population parameters of Malabar trevally (Carangoides malabaricus) were studied in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea from December ۲۰۱۶ to November ۲۰۱۷. ۱۰۳۰ specimens were collected. The fork length ranged from ۱۴ to ۳۴ cm, with average ۲۵.۶۰±۳.۵۲ cm. The total weight ranged from ۶۰.۴ to ۵۳۴.۵ g, with average ۳۲۹.۰۳±۱۱۳.۴۶ g. The asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) were ۳۷ cm and K=۰.۸۵ per year, respectively. The probability of capture was calculated in fork length as L۲۵%=۲۲.۴۷ cm, L۵۰%=۲۴.۰۲ cm and L۷۵%=۲۵.۲۶ cm. The length-weight relationship was determined as W= ۰.۰۶ L ۲.۶۲. The annual total mortality (Z), fishing mortality (F), and natural mortality (M) coefficients were estimated ۳.۱, ۱.۶۲, and ۱.۴۸ per year, respectively. The current rate of exploitation (E) was ۰.۵۲, and the value of exploitation ratio was found reasonable for current fishing effort. The results indicated that the Malabar trevally stock was not overexploited.
