Abstract:
Predicting the outcomes of coronavirus disease ۲۰۱۹ (COVID‐۱۹) with comorbidities has been an interesting subject of study in the field of medicine. This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics, radiologic features, and severe outcomes of COVID-۱۹ among hospitalized COVID-۱۹ patients with or without underlying comorbidity diseases. In this retrospective cohort study conducted from ۱ June ۲۰۲۰ to ۳۰ September ۲۰۲۰, ۳۲۰ hospitalized cases with laboratory-confirmed COVID-۱۹ and admitted to public hospitals in Arak, Iran, were examined. The mean ± SD age of the patients was ۵۶.۷۸ ± ۲۰.۰۶ years. The comorbidity group showed a substantially greater percentage of defined nodular pattern in chest X-ray (۷.۶% vs ۲%, P = ۰.۰۲۴) and plural effusion in CT scan findings (۹% vs ۰%, P = ۰.۰۰۴). Intensive care unit (ICU) admission (۶.۹% vs. ۰.۶%, P = ۰.۰۰۳), mechanical ventilation (۵.۰% vs. ۰.۶%, P = ۰.۰۱۸), and death (۶.۳% vs. ۰.۰%, P = ۰.۰۰۲) were higher in the comorbidity group. Comorbidity group had a considerably greater ratio of ICU admission, invasive ventilation, and mortality.
