Abstract:
This study was done in research institute of nuclear medicine from ۱۹۸۸-۱۹۹۲ for evaluation of the value of serum thyroglobulin level in comparison with ۱-۱۳۱ whole body scan (۱-۱۳۱ WBS) in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. ۲۰۴ patients who had total or near total thyroidectomy treated with ۱-۱۳۱ were evaluated in this study. Out of ۲۰۴ patients ۱۳۶ did not have regional or distant metastases. ۶۸ patients had recurrence and metastases in which ۴۲ cases showed good correlation between hTG and ۱-۱۳۱ WBS. In ۱۴ cases with recurrence and metastases only ۱-۱۳۱ WBS was diagnostic and in ۱۲ cases hTG was diagnostic while ۱-۱۳۱ WBS was negative. With the help of other diagnostic modolities such as Tl-۲۰۱, chest X-ray biopsy and repeated ۱-۱۳۱ WBS during ۵ years of follow-up regional recurrence and metastases were diagnosed. Serum hTG level for diagnosis of recurrence and metastases hud a sensitivity of ۷۹.۴%, specificity ۹۰.۴% and accuracy of ۸۶.۸% while ۱-۱۳۱ WBS had sensitivity of ۸۲.۳%, accuracy of ۹۴.۱% and specificity of ۱۰۰%.
