Examples of “Earthquake and Safety” Teaching Patterns at School and Preschool Levels abstract
Introduction: Public education and preparedness are among the factors which can be effective in disaster risk reduction. The importance of this issue is such that these days the planners and experts identify education as one of the main indicators for confronting the disasters and reducing its impact. Therefore, achieving awareness and considering the safety measures are resulted from fundamental and continuous teaching which starts from the first stages of child learning and grows gradually. In this regard, education especially for preschool children and elementary level is of great importance and has been emphasized in the national education and training policies. With regard to the seismicity of the country and the importance of children as the future of any country and the messengers of safety, “Earthquake and safety” is among the issues that have been taken into consideration in formal and informal education in Iran and children get familiar with this subject in various stages from preschool to university level. This paper presents few samples of appropriate methods for teaching “Earthquake and safety” to teachers and instructors in preschool and school level in order to enhance and improve education.
