Abstract:

Nowadays, with increasing penetration of distributedgenerations (DGs) in electricity networks, Microgrids (MGs)have been created. These MGs can operate in grid connected orislanded mode. Islanded operation of a MG is still a challengingtopic. The main issue in off-grid operation is voltage andfrequency control of MG. Energy storage system (ESS) can playan effective role in this situation. In this paper, battery energystorage system (BESS) is used to improve the performance ofvoltage and frequency in off-grid mode. An appropriate controlstrategy for BESS is defined and used in order to regulate thevoltage and frequency of an islanded MG. To show theeffectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method, the controlstrategy is applied to a ۰.۴ kV benchmark MG inMATLAB/Simulink.
