Abstract:
Transition metal oxides (TMOs) have widespread applications in the latest energy technologies, such as batteries and supercapacitors. In this work, the mixed oxides of the transition metals (e.g. nickel, cobalt, and copper) were synthesized by a simple one-step chronoamperometry technique on nickel foam (NF) current collector. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and elemental mapping analysis. The as-prepared electrodes were studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) measurement, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques in ۳ M KOH electrolyte. The NF/TMOs electrode has shown the highest specific capacitance of ۱۱۲۵ F g-۱ at the current density of ۳ A g-۱ compared to the individual electrodes modified by NiO (۹۴ F g-۱), CoO (۱۳۵ F g-۱), and Cu۲O (۳۰۰ F g-۱). The EIS study has revealed the series resistance (RS) of ۵.۱۸ Ω and the charge-transfer resistance (RCT) of ۹۴.۳۸ Ω at the interface of NF/TMOs electrode and KOH electrolyte. The satisfying results obtained by the TMOs electrode material suggest its highest applicability for various electrochemical applications, especially supercapacitors and batteries.
