hydrothermal synthesis of zeolite for edifenphos absorption abstract

In this study, NaP zeolite samples were synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis method. NaP zeolite was characterizedby XRD, SEM and FTIR. Zeolite prepared was used as adsorbents in the batch adsorption of edifenphos pesticide fromaqueous solutions. The absorption of edifenphos was carried out by batch method. The optimum conditions of sorptionwere found as follows: a sorbent amount of 0.4 g in 50 mL of edifenphos solution (50 mg/L), contact time, pH andtemperature 20 min, 6 and 20 oC respectively. Results showed that increase of temperature has a positive effect on theedifenphos sorption process by zeolite. Three equations, i.e. Morris–Weber, Lagergren pseudo first order and pseudosecond order have been applied to study the kinetics of removal process. The edifenphos sorption process was welldescribed by the Morris-Weber kinetic model. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubnin-Randkovich (D-R) and Temkin modelswere subjected to sorption data to estimate sorption capacity, intensity and energy. The thermodynamic parameters ΔH,ΔS and ΔG were evaluated. Thermodynamic parameters showed that absorption of edifenphos onto zeolite was feasible.
