Finite element modelling and fatigue life assessment of hip prosthesis based on3D scanning abstract

Fracture of a femoral and hip joint replacement is one of the most common surgeries in the field oforthopedics. Many factors play an essential role in the success of surgical procedures, but mostly it dependson the prosthesis types. Despite improvements in prostheses design and biomechanics, there are still issuesthat need further research in this field. Stress shielding is a biomechanical phenomenon occurring that causesa fracture. To solve these problems, new prostheses with porous structures were designed. Three-dimensionalcomputed tomography (CT) model of the prosthesis was used in Material Mimics software to create the 3Dmodel file. Solidworks software was used to turn the model into a honeycomb structure. The finite elementmethod was used to perform the analysis using the Abaqus software. This study aimed to calculate the fatiguelife of the porous structure prosthesis by using the finite element method. Results showed that the reduction ofthe maximum Von Mises stress in the designed model had caused an increase in the coefficient of fatigue andparts life.
