Effect of annealing on microstructure and corrosion properties of Admiralty brass alloy tube in 3.5% NaCl solution abstract
The microstructure and corrosion resistance of annealed Admiralty brass alloy tube were investigated using optical microscope, X-ray diffraction (XRD), DC polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), respectively. The recrystallizations gradually increased with the increase of annealing temperature and holding time. As annealing temperature and holding time increase, corrosion potential (EC) increased while corrosion rate (iC) decreased at 3.5% NaCl solution. The impedance measurements have shown that the corrosion rate of the alloy decreases with the immersion time from 0 to 15 days. The SnO2 surface film and the Sn-rich phases were responsible for the corrosion resistance of annealed Admiralty brass alloy tube in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. It was found that the Admiralty brass alloy tube annealed at 780°C for 120 min exhibited favorable corrosion resistance
