Achieving Optimum Structure and Mechanical Behaviour in 12Cr2NiWV steel via Austenizing and Tempering Temperatures abstract

12Cr2NiWV is a creep resistant bainitic steel. The aim of this study is the evaluation of heat treatment parameters which can provide the optimum austenizing and tempering conditions and improve the impact resistance of this alloy. For these purposes austenizing and tempering process at different temperatures were carried out for one hour. Scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluate the final structures. Mechanical behavior of this steel was also examined by hardness and impact tests after different heat treatments. Tempered structure of this particular steel included acicular shaped bainite and peroeutectoid ferrite which included a high density of fine carbide particles around the bainite. The results of hardness and impact energy estimations indicated that temperatures of 910oC and 625oC are the best austenizing and tempering temperatures respectively.
