Study on mechanical properties of PMMA Beam undertermo-mechanical load abstract

Under uni-axial stress, a finite element analysis of the temperature-dependentmechanical behavior of Poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) was carried out attemperatures of 20℃, 40℃, 60 ℃, and 80 ℃,which are well below its glass transitionpoint which is 108 ℃. This research was complemented and validated by simulationsdone by previous papers aiming at determining material characteristics for a PMMAdumbbell specimen with well-defined dimensions. The mechanical behavior of PMMAwas dramatically impacted by temperature, with quasi-brittle fracture at ambienttemperature and super-plastic behavior above 80 degrees.
