Domestication Techniques in dubbing English Animation intoPersian: The Croods ۲

According to linguistic differences, translating audio-visual productions and replacing foreign languageelements with the culture and language of the target community have always been challenging for translators.With the increasing expansion of media and dubbing products, this industry has attracted the attention ofmillions of audiences in different countries. In recent years, due to the importance of media and the wide rangeof linguistic and cultural effects that films and animations have had on people in society from children to adults,the study of translating audio-visual productions has been considered by several researchers. This studyidentifies and pursues the domestication techniques applied in the dubbing of “The Croods ۲”. In order toidentify the techniques applied by translators and dubbing directors, the dubbed version and the original versionof the film have been examined. A “quadruple classification” was developed to determine the frequency ofapplied strategies. The results of the research indicate that the translators and dubbing directors have mainlyapplied the techniques introduced in the form of “quadruple classification” of this research in order todomesticate the phrases and terms of the main script based on Iranian culture and Persian Language. In otherwords, translators replace, remove or add phrases to the original script in order to domesticate the phrases basedon the Iranian culture Persian linguistic forms.
