Film Boiling Simulation Using a Level set Based Sharp Interface Method abstract

In this study, a numerical algorithm is proposed for simulation of incompressible two phase flows with phase change. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using an explicit projection method coupled with the level set technique for interface capturing. The ghost fluid method is used to impose appropriate jump conditions at the interface. Therefore, all discontinuous variables across the interface are modeled in a sharp manner. By solving temperature equation a local vaporization mass flow rate per unit of surface area is defined. Specific care has been devoted to the extension of discontinuous variables across the interface to populate ghost cells, in order to avoid numericaldiffusion across the interface. Results are presented for simulation of horizontal film boiling and are compared with available numerical and exact solutions. Numericalexamples show that the method is accurate, robust and able to capture physical effects.
