Numerical and experimental estimation of fatigue lifetime in FSW of Cu-Al 7075-T6 joints including initial notch abstract

In this work fatigue lifetime of friction stir welding of Cu-Al7075-T6 joints were investigated. Fatigue tests of welded specimens were carried out and the experimental data were compared with the numerical predictions. Paris-Walker law was applied for estimating fatigue lifetime. Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) concept was employed for determining mechanical properties of different regions of welded joints, including nugget, heat affected zone, and parent materials. The results showed good agreement between the experimental data and numerical estimations.
