Abstract:

The electro-magneto-thermo-elastic behavior of a smart sphere made of functionally graded piezoelectric materiel (FGPM) is investigated. The vessel is subjected to an internal pressure, a uniform temperature field, an electric potential and a uniform magnetic field. Under such a loading condition an analytical solution is presented for displacement, electric potential distribution and electro-magneto-thermoelastic stresses in the FGPM sphere. All mechanical, thermal and piezoelectric properties except Poisson’s ratio have been expressed as power functions of the radius. Effect of material inhomogeneity parameter on radial and circumferential stresses, radial displacement and electric potential distribution is reported in this paper. It has been found that by selecting a proper material inhomogeneity parameter the distributions of stresses and radial displacement in the FGPM sphere can be controlled. The solution presented in this paper can be used to investigate the effect of magnetic field and electric potential on elastic response of FGPM sphere.
