Analysis of flow field and heat transfer characteristics of thermal cavity using DSMC abstract
In this study, direct simulation Monte-Carlo (DSMC) method is utilized to investigate thermal characteristics of micro and nano cavity flow. We consider the effects of rarefaction on the gas flow and heat transfer in a square cavity with different wall temperature magnitudes. Heat transfer is analyzed on rarefied gas behavior at Kn=0.05, 0.2, 0.5 and 1. Although temperature of cavity's walls is fixed, sharp loss in heat transfer is observed as soon as we increase rarefaction of gas. The effects of Kn number and wall temperatureratio on the vortexes formed in the cavity are considered. From the molecular point of view, we survey key parameters affecting on heat transfer and temperatures jump characteristics at micro/nano scales. Results of this paper explain significant flow patterns which could not be detected in the classical hydrodynamic description.
