investigating the effect of Oral sucrose 24% on infants’s pain abstract

Introduction: Vaccination is one of the painful and invasive processes that every infant will face. Therefore, it is necessary to consider appropriate non-pharmacological measures to promoting hygiene and health of the society and relieve the pain caused by the vaccine in infants in order to prevent physiological, psychological and psychological complications of the mother and the infant. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of sucrose on the pain caused by vaccination in infants.Method: In this clinical trial, 90 six-month-old infants referred to Khomein health centers were selected by available sampling method and then divided into two groups of oral sucrose and control by simple randomization method. In the sucrose group, the infant was given a 24% syringe solution with a syringe about 10 seconds before the injection. No special intervention was performed in the control group. Data collection was calculated using a questionnaire and MBPS pain measurement tool. Then, the data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The mean and standard deviation of behavioral pain reactions using oral sucrose were lower than the control group (p = 0.0000). There was also a statistically significant difference in pain intensity between control groups and sucrose (p = 0.0000).Conclusion: The result of the study showed that oral sucrose reduce the pain caused by vaccination in infants; Therefore, it is recommended to the officials of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education to provide the necessary instructions for the use of the mentioned method in order to relieve the pain of infants and improve the health and quality of health and hygiene services.
