New methods of simulating earthquakes to improve the site specific design spectra abstract
Earthquake is one of the most destructive and frightening natural phenomena. This phenomenon can shake the earth suddenly, violently, and usually without warning at any time of the day or night. Knowing the high-risk areas and preventive planning reduces the risks caused by earthquakes. One of the basic challenges in analyzing the hazard of earthquakes is to accurately calculate their return period. To achieve this goal, a long-term and complete history of earthquakes that occurred in the studied area is needed, but the available information on earthquakes is incomplete. One of the ways to solve this problem is to prepare long-term numerical models using simulators based on sliding physics. This study introduces new earthquake simulation methods such as VC, VQ, Viscosim, Allcal and RSQsim to compares them in order to refine seismic hazard analysis methods. The use of earthquake simulators to increase the accuracy in earthquake return period calculations as an important parameter in accurate seismic hazard analysis for seismic design or retrofitting, it is of great importance.
