Abstract:
Background and Objective: More than ۱۰۰ types of human wart viruses have been identified. Theseviruses cause disease on the skin and mucous membranes in any tissue that is exposed to them, includingthe genitals. It has been determined that ۴۰ types of papillomaviruses are pathogenic in the genital organsof men and women. Its low and high-risk types, such as strains ۱۸, ۱۶, ۵۴, ۳۳, ۵۸, etc., can cause varioustypes of cancer in both sexes in the reproductive organs, digestive system, or even the respiratory system.Genital warts, which are much more contagious than normal warts and there are cancerous types, shouldbe treated as soon as possible. In the treatment of these warts, local chemical or traditional drugs, cryotherapy, laser, thermotherapy, surgery, etc. are used, but none of the treatments is definitive and inmany cases, disease recurrence is seen. Research in the field of drug production or more efficient andeffective treatment methods is of great importance. In Iranian traditional medicine, the Nettle plant ismentioned as one of the effective plants in the treatment of warts. The purpose of this research is toinvestigate the pre-clinical effect of Nettle plant extract (Viranex) prepared in Behzist Airic Novin DaruCompany for the treatment of male genital warts. Methods: In this preclinical study, ۶۹ male and female patients of different ages were suffering fromvarious types of warts. ۱۹ men were suffering from genital warts, of which ۸ men had the primary diseaseand ۱۱ other men used routine treatment methods at least once and recurrence of the disease occurred. ۳men from this group had chronic genital warts for more than two years. Their warts had itching, burning,or limited bleeding. Diagnosis and confirmation of the wart were done based on its shape and appendagesusing examination and Dermascope. The evaluation of the therapeutic effect of Viranex in all ۱۹ affectedmen started by obtaining written consent and recording medical information. Results: In this evaluation, ۳ out of ۱۹ patients were excluded from the study due to not sending thenecessary information to follow up the treatment process. The remaining ۱۶ male patients were treatedwith Viranex. Five cases were treated again due to disease recurrence. There was no recurrence of thedisease in the last ۸۰ days. Occurrence of necrosis and inflammation at the site of warts treated withViranex is reported in every ۱۶ men, which resolved after completion of treatment. Conclusion: The results of the preclinical evaluation show that Viranex solution containing Nettle extractcan be a suitable topical medicine for the treatment of male genital warts.
