Abstract:

Creativity is becoming increasingly important in modern society (Beghetto and Kaufman ۲۰۱۴;Richardson and Mishra ۲۰۱۸; Yeh et al. ۲۰۱۲). Specifically, as students are the key drivers ofsocietal development, universities around the world have been taking on the mission of fosteringcreative individuals and producing creativity. Accordingly, researchers and educators areattempting to identify predictors that facilitate student creativity, such as teacher behaviors (e.g.,encouragement and other teacher behaviors) (Chan and Yuen ۲۰۱۴). More recently, researchershave begun investigating the role of the classroom environment (Tsai et al. ۲۰۱۵). Notably missingfrom the literature is a thorough examination of the creative learning environment, despitesuggestions by scholars that student creativity can be nurtured by educators who focus greatereffort on building a learning environment that highlights the value of creativity (Davies et al. ۲۰۱۳;Richardson and Mishra ۲۰۱۸). Therefore, a major purpose of this study is to address the connectionbetween a creative learning environment and student creativity by identifying several importantintervening mechanisms.
