Abstract:

Introduction:Tobacco use has caused a global spread of public health problems and ultimately preventable deaths. So that smoking is expected to be one of the main causes of death in ۲۰۳۰. Today, the effectiveness of traditionalmethods to quit smoking has decreased. Therefore, it is important to look for efficient ways to quit smoking andpromote the health of society. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of augmented reality (AR) on smokingcessation.Method & Material:This narrative review was done by keywords “augmented reality AND smokingcessation AND smokers”, with No time limit due to the limited evidence in this field thought PubMed, Elsevier,ProQuest and Google scholar databases and search engineer in English and Farsi languages. Results:After the initial search, all articles were reviewed. Results show that AR smoking cues, elicited substantialcue reactivity (i.e. increased urge) and that repeated exposure to the AR smoking cues reduced urge (i.e. extinction). The recent widespread availability of augmented reality offers an opportunity to translate cue exposure therapy forsmoking cessation from the laboratory to the real world.Discussion:This study introduces Augmented reality (AR) asa novel modality for presenting smoking-related stimuli to provoke cue reactivity, and ultimately to conductextinction-based therapy. AR is a rapidly developing technology that has substantial potential as a novel approach foraddiction treatment, including tobacco use
