Abstract:

There is limited information on the importance of erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hematologicalparameters as prognostic parameters for the prognosis and mortality of COVID-۱۹. This study aimed toinvestigate the diagnostic utility of red blood cell sedimentation rate and hematological parameters as aprognostic factor for disease severity and mortality in patients with COVID-۱۹ and one month afterrecovery. A total of ۳۵ selected patients with the diagnosis of covid-۱۹ hospitalized in the intensive careunit in Ganjovian Dezful Hospital and one month after recovery were included in the study.Demographic information, epidemiological data, clinical symptoms, and laboratory test data of thepatients were collected and compared. Sedimentation rates of erythrocyte, MCV, monocytes andlymphocytes among patients with severe/critical illness were significant compared to one month afterrecovery. Also, logistic regression analysis showed that erythrocyte sedimentation rate is anindependent parameter for predicting disease severity . Our results show that erythrocyte sedimentationrate, MCV, monocytes, and lymphocytes are very good prognostic factors for severity and mortality inpatients with COVID-۱۹, although more studies with larger sample size are needed to confirm theresults of our study.
