Carbon Supported Isolated Platinum Nanoparticles as High In-Situ Performance and Durable Electrocatalysts for PEMFC abstract

Different samples from 10 % to 30% platinum loading with the carbon supports have been synthesized and characterized to be used as electrocatalysts for PEM fuel cells. A modified polyol method proved to be promising. Conventional and modified polyol methods and impregnation were also utilized to synthesize Pt/C samples. TEM and CO-stripping voltammetry were utilized for an excellent detection of aggregation. In-situ electrochemical studies also have been performed on the electrocatalysts inside a PEM fuel cell system. Current potential curves have exhibited that the electrochemical performance of the synthesized catalysts by the modified polyol with solely isolated Pt nanoparticles was the best among other catalysts produced by ordinary and modified polyol and impregnation technique. A very high electrochemical activity inside the fuel cell even after an accelerated degradation protocol exhibited the capability of the synthesized electrocatalysts as durable and high performance choices for PEM fuel cells.
