One-pot synthesis of high molecular weight hydroxyl group containing sulfonated polyoxadiazole copolymer for proton exchange membranes abstract
For the first time, a high molecular weight sulfonated polyoxadiazole copolymer containing hydroxyl group has been synthesized at high temperatures and very short reaction time, by a single-step method based on solution polycondensation reaction of non-sulfonated dicarboxylic acids and hydrazine sulfate in polyphosphoric acid. Copolymer with a high conversion to oxazole group as well as good sulfonation level has been obtained. The structure of the polymer was characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. Surface morphology analysis performs using FE-SEM. This copolymer exhibited high thermal stability that confirmed with TGA. A membrane was prepared by solution casting and show good proton conductivity.
