Properties of the nanostructured 6061 aluminum alloy produced by melt spinning abstract
In the present study, the properties of nanostructure Al6061, produced by melt spinning technique at a cooling rate of about 107 K/s (resulting in a solidification time of only a few ms), were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) and microhardness testing. The properties of melt-spun nanostructure were then compared with those of conventional direct chill (DC) casting. The results show that the formation of nanoparticles of Mg2Si (about 50 nm in radius), the nanograins of about 61.8 nm can significantly increase the mechanical properties of melt-spun foils comparing to the conventional cast ones
