Abstract:
Background: Depression has been known as a psychological problem in people"s lives forcenturies. Depression is a common mental disorder that usually causes severe disability and has agreat impact on individuals, families and communities. This disorder is one of the most commondebilitating diseases in different countries. This disorder is associated with changes in a person"slifestyle in the form of reduced physical activity, increased smoking and increased appetite orweight gain, causing other chronic diseases, or causing problems in the optimal control of otherchronic diseases.Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive analytical study that was conducted in ۲۰۱۸.A total of ۲۱۶ patients admitted to the heart department of Bandar Abbas Shahid MohammadiHospital were studied by census method after meeting the entry criteria and if they were satisfied.The data collection tool was a personal profile form and a standardized Beck questionnaire. Theoverall score of each person in the back test is obtained by summing the scores in all aspects,where a score of ۰-۹ is a sign of no depression, ۱۰-۲۰ is mild depression, ۲۱-۳۰ is moderatedepression, and ۶۳-۳۱ is severe depression. In general, a person whose depression score is greaterthan or equal to ۱۰ is considered depressed Findings: ۶۳.۴% women, ۳۶.۶% men and most of them(۴۱.۲%) were between ۴۱ and ۶۰ years old, and the majority (۴۸.۶%) were illiterate andunemployed. The history of the studied subjects showed that ۳۱% of them had a history of nervedisease and ۳۸.۴% had a history of angiography. Among the studied subjects, ۲۹.۲% weresmokers. ۳۱.۵% of people were passive smokers.Results: In this study, there was a high prevalence of depression, which was mostly mild. In thisstudy, there was no significant relationship between smoking and depression and its severity. Inthe current study, there was no significant relationship between smoking and depression inischemic heart patients based on being a passive smoker, occupation, history of neurological andmental illness, previous open surgery, gender and history of angiography, but there was no significant relationship between smoking and depression in ischemic heart patients based on age.And the level of education was significant.Conclusion: Smoking in ischemic heart patients is related to older age and higher education level.Therefore, it is necessary to plan appropriate preventive and therapeutic measures for this group atrisk.
