Abstract:
High blood pressure (BP) is one of the most health issues that is increasing in developingcountries. It is also the most important correctable cause of cardiovascular diseases. One of the riskfactors for high BP is cigarette smoking. Smoking causes an acute increase in BP and heart rate.The response to treatment of BP in smokers with high BP is weaker rather than in other people, so,they should take more medicine. In this study, hypertension in employee smokers was evaluated.An investigation was conducted in Bandar Abbas City, Hormozgan province, Iran. A group ofpeople that were selected from the population were consisting of ۸۰۶۷ men and women employeeswith the chosen age rating including: ۱۵ teenagers (up to ۱۸); ۱۷۵۰ young (۱۹–۲۹); ۶۲۳۰ middleaged(۳۰–۵۹); and ۷۲ elders (>۶۰). The systolic, diastolic BP, and the rate of smoking of thesepeople were collected. Data was analyzed as statistical by using SPSS software. The resultsshowed that ۶۲۲ persons from ۸۰۶۷ were smokers, of which ۱ person was a teenager, ۵۷ personswere young, ۵۵۱ persons were middle-aged, and ۱۴ persons were elders. Among these ۶۲۲ people,۲.۵% of young people, ۳۶.۳۳% of middle-aged people, and ۰.۸% of elderly persons had high BP. Itis concluded that, the middle-aged employee smokers had the heights percentage of hypertension,and the lowest percentage of hypertension was related to old smokers (>۶۰ years). This may bebecause people who have hypertension and smoking habits will have a shorter lifespan
