Abstract:

the stepped spillway is the most powerful hydraulic structure to dissipate large flow energy downstream from steep hills this paper presents the flow characteristics for energy dissipation in various types of stepped spillways horizontal steps steps with end sills and inclined steps by numerical simulation adopting the reynolds stress turbulence model RSM the mixture flow model for air water two phase flow was used to simulate the flow field over stepped spillways the mixture model is suitable method than VOF method to produce the interaction between entrained air bubbles and cavity recirculation in the skimming flow regime .the relationships between relative energy loss and relative critical flow depth on various stepped spillwayws aree presented and discussed.
