Abstract:
Forough Farrokhzad (۱۹۳۵-۱۹۶۷) and Sylvia Plath (۱۹۳۲-۱۹۶۳) were two of the most significant female poets of the twentieth century. They came from completely different worlds; Sylvia Plath, an American who spent much of her time in England devoted all her life for her art. She was an ambitious poet of the confessional, and the most iconic of her generation. Forough Farrokhzad on the other hand, an Iranian who was born into a patriarchal society, practiced her artistic talent in a crucial time in the history of her country. Both poets paved the way for feminist revolutions in East and West with bold self-expression on controversial female subjects; their impacts were so significant that each continue to have strong followers today. This comparative study will examine the lives of these two fascinating women, showing similarities and differences in their works of art.
