Abstract:

In this work, a new complex of mercury with dimethylpyridine-۲,۶-dicarboxylate (MPC), was prepared by identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-Ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis results revealed that the MPC ligand, after reactions with the KSCN and HgCl۲, gives structures [Hg(MPC)(SCN)Cl]. In the crystal structure of this complex mercury atom has an HgClNO۲S environment with monoclinic pyramidal geometry. In this complex the coordination number of the mercury (II) ion is ۵. The ligand is potentially five dentate but only uses three states. When MPC ligand coordinated to mercury, forms two five membered chilate rings. In the crystal network of the complex there are intermolecular C–H···Cl, C–H···N and C–H···O hydrogen bonds, extending the crystal network into three dimensional
