Abstract:
The use of recasts in second or foreign language development has been a topic of interest in numerous studies; however, the actual effects of recasts are not well understood. While much effort has been spent on categorizing and defining various types of recasts, little attention has been given to investigating their impact on learners' performance. To address this gap, this study aimed to examine the effects of implicit and explicit recasts on the proper use of simple perfect tenses. A repeated-measures design was employed with ۴۵ Iranian students of English as a foreign language who were asked to answer a series of questions related to the correct application of simple perfect tenses. The collected data underwent statistical analyses, which revealed that recasts were effective in promoting the acquisition of simple perfect tenses. Furthermore, explicit recasts were found to be more effective than implicit recasts in this study.
