Simulation of Blood Treatment Flow in Artificial Kidney abstract

The people who usually have renal insufficiency, blood treatment process is performed by a special machinethat has artificial kidney task. This process is known as hemodialysis. In dialysis machine, blood is placed on dialysisfilter in the vicinity of diluted solution, and because of osmosis phenomenon in the special filter, urea is extracted fromblood plasma and refined blood is returned to the patient’s body. Using CFD methods can have high influence onreduction of experimental costs and required time for optimization. In this study, main object was simulating of 2d flowpattern in a fiber used in artificial kidney by CFD methods. Moreover, effects of solvent flow-rate on dialysisperformance were investigated. To solve governing equations we used FLUENT software which works on finite volumemethods. Obtained results have good agreement with tentative observations.
