Design of a Dual Helix Intravascular MRI Coil abstract

MRI is excellent for characterizing soft tissue types. Coil SNR plays an important role in increasingcontrast between the vessel wall and likely atheroma inside it. The helix coil is the latest version of loopless coils whichare presented by researchers. In this study, which aims to increase the SNR and field of view of a helix coil, a dualhelix intravascular coil is presented and its performance analyzed. The new coil includes two helix coils which arewound in opposite directions. To analyze the pixel SNR distribution, we describe three parameters: maximum SNR,uniformity, and FOV. Simulation of these parameters around the introduced and the conventional coils shows thatmaximum SNR and FOV are increased by a factor of two in radial plane for the new coil whereas reduction inuniformity is resulted by only a few.
