Abstract:

In this paper, we will study the trajectory and speed of Ice fragment from a rotating wind turbine. Using Newton's second law and Euler's equations of motion, the governing equations including the transfer and rotation of the fragment compact from the rotating part of the turbine. The calculations will be done using a ballistic model, where the drag coefficient is kept constant on average and the lift forces are ignored during the flight. The trajectory, the speed and the impact energy of the ice fragment will be obtained according to the initial angle of the projectile after solving the ODE differential equations using the ۴th order Runge-Kutta method. We will validate the obtained results with the available references. The innovations used in this research are, using a special method to obtain the initial conditions and solve the problem, which can be defined and solved in any coordinates in the three-dimensional space, investigating the speed and energy of the ice impact, which play an important role in the amount of damage, terminal velocity check and simulation and calculation of ice rotation at any moment.
