Investigating the effective factors on patient communication from the viewpoint of nursing students in Isfahan teaching hospitals

Abstract: Background & Aim: In medical sciences, communication is the main pillar of patient care. Communication is considered as essential indicator in patient satisfaction, cooperation and rehabilitation. Suitable interaction leads to improved health and patient satisfaction. Materials & Methods: The present study was a descriptive Analytical study that was performed cross-sectionally in year ۲۰۲۰ in Isfahan city. The research sample included ۱۲۶ undergraduate nursing students. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire consisting of ۶ categories and ۵۰ questions based on five-point Likert scale. The validity of the instrument was confirmed by content validity and its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient of ۰.۹۶. Descriptive and inferential tests such as T- independent, analysis of variance and Pearson test at level (P <۰.۰۵) were used to analyze the data. Results: Among the factors affecting patient communication, students identified professional factors as factors affecting student-patient communication. Based on statistical tests, there was a significant relationship between individual, social and professional factors with demographic variables (P<۰.۰۵). Conclusion: Due to the high importance of factors related to job and profession compared to other factors affecting the relationship between patients and nursing students, it is necessary that the obstacles related to the environment and working conditions of nurses should be seriously considered by nursing officials and the necessary measures should be taken to resolve them.
