Abstract:

Anxiety is a condition associated with preparation for expected situations or actions, which may appear threatening, and can disturb patients' lives. Anxiety typically co-occurs with other types of psychiatric disorders including depression. Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent group of mental disorders in most Western countries. Resveratrol, a well-recognized polyphenol compound, can play roles as a neuroprotective agent, affecting the brain functions comprising behavioral aspects relevant to anxiety and depression. The trans-resveratrol influence on anxiety-like behaviors and impairment of fear memory had been detected. In Vivo, experiments indicated that resveratrol may reduce anxiety-like behaviors on different models and can be regarded as a potent therapeutic target to be applied for treatment of the anxiety. In this paper, we take a look at resveratrol functions on anxiety-related behaviors.
