Abstract:
The study of Iranian urban space in ancient times faced significant challenges due to political, historical, and social events, resulting in delayed and intermittent academic research in Iran. However, despite these obstacles, valuable insights into urban forms can be gleaned from various sources. To comprehensively understand Iranian urban space in ancient times, a multidisciplinary approach is essential. This involves analyzing existing buildings and sites, as well as examining literary and historical texts. Although the available texts from historical periods are limited, reviewing literature and travelogues offers valuable information about urban planning and architecture. Notably, Persian literature, such as Ferdowsi's Shāh-nāmeh, provides unique insights into the culture, history, and urbanism of Iran before the advent of Islam. In addition, recent sources are briefly explained. This research primarily relies on library sources.
