Abstract:

This study was a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of process versus product approach of teachingwriting to M.A candidates of TEFL. For the purpose of this study, a Pre-test Post-test Equivalent-GroupsDesign served to complement the objectives of the present study. In doing so, ۶۰ participants were randomlyselected from the ۱۰۶ population in terms of their language proficiency on Oxford Placement test (OPT),they were divided into two homogeneous groups, the experimental and the control ones. The experimentalgroup was trained writing through process approach. However, the writing instruction for the control groupof the study was trained writing through product approach. The findings of the study indicated that writinginstruction through process approach was highly successful in improving Iranian EFL learners writingperformance
