Abstract:
Municipalities around the world have been taking on more responsibilities in the last few decades as civil, public, and local institutions. Interestingly, this trend is visible in most countries, regardless of their governance style. In most countries, the mayor is the highest official in the local government of cities or metropolises. In most political systems, the mayor plays the highest executive or ceremonial role in a variety of municipalities. The purpose of this study is applied research and the nature and method of descriptive-analytical research. The purpose of this study is to compare the responsibilities of municipalities as urban management in Iran with other countries. Comparing the tasks of Iranian municipalities with the title of urban management with some countries in the world, it can be said that the duties of municipalities have been increasing. Its reasons include the level of development of countries and the use of capacity and participation of local and private institutions. On the other hand, governments in developing countries, especially Iran, are pushing municipalities to perform more restrictive tasks because municipalities in Iran do not have full jurisdiction and face dissonance with other municipal organizations in their duties.
