Efficient synthesis of β-hydroxy thiocyanates from epoxides andammonium thiocyanate using ۱,۴-bis(triphenylphosphonium)-۲-butene dichloride as a new catalyst

۱,۴-bis(triphenylphosphonium)-۲-butene dichloride was developed as a new phase transfercatalyst. This quaternized phosphonium salt catalyzed the regioselective ring opening of epoxides bythiocyanate ion to give β-hydroxy thiocyanates in high yields under mild conditions.
